What we keep, and how to make it go away.
Short version: be a Brown student, be 18, be honest, be kind. Your answers are yours. Delete everything any time.
Who can join
Current Brown students, undergraduate or graduate, who are 18 or older. You sign in with a code sent to your brown.edu address. There are no passwords, and alumni addresses don't work.
What we keep
Your brown.edu address, your name, your birthday, your class year and concentration, and the rest of what you tell us about yourself. Up to three photos. Your answers to the questionnaire. Whether you said yes or passed each week. Your messages.
We don't ask for your location or your contacts, and there is no advertising.
Who sees what
Each week, the one person you're matched with sees your first name, class year, photos, prompts, interests and Brown favorites, plus anything you switched on: your concentration, your pronouns, what you're looking for, and the optional answers you chose to show. They see it from Sunday at 8 until the week ends, and after that only if you both said yes.
Nobody you're matched with ever sees your last name, your email address or your birthday.
Your private answers are never shown to anyone: not the people you're matched with, and not us. The matching reads them; people don't. Admins have no screen and no query that shows them.
Nobody is told you passed. A pass looks exactly like a week ending.
Your photos are private. Each one is shown through a link that expires within an hour, and only to you and whoever you're matched with.
The people who run Cupid on Thayer can also see your name, email address and photos, for safety. They can read a conversation only after someone in it reports it.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Messages stay while a conversation is open, and for 30 days after it ends or someone blocks, in case it's reported. Then they're deleted. If a conversation is reported, its last 50 messages stay with the report until either of you deletes your account.
Who else handles it
Supabase stores the database and the photos, in the United States. Vercel serves the site. Postmark sends the email. Nobody else.
Pausing, a copy, and leaving
Preferences has all three. Pause matching for a few weeks, or until you come back. Download everything we hold about you as a file. Delete your account, and your photos, answers, matches and conversations go immediately and for good.
The rules
Be 18 or older and a current Brown student. Be honest in your photos and your answers. Be kind in conversations. We can pause or remove anyone who isn't.
Asking us
Cupid on Thayer is a student project. It isn't affiliated with Brown University, and Brown has no access to any of this.
Questions, or anything you want gone: write to hello@cupidonthayer.com and a person will answer.
